It’s no secret that beauty editors receive a lot of product to consider for editorial coverage. Our drawers, desks, closets, and entire homes are often overflowing with product — so much so that we don’t have any space to put it away. With so many products at our fingertips, we constantly balance wanting to try out every new toy with sticking to the things that we’re currently obsessing over. So it begs the question, what products do we actually finish? Here are our May 2019 beauty empties.
Every month, the editorial team of Off The Shelf is rounding up every single beauty product they finished that month. Whether it’s makeup, haircare, skincare, fragrance, or nail polish, it’s difficult to actually go through every single bit of a product, especially when we’re always trying new things. So, it means a lot — and is arguably pretty impressive — when we’re able to go through a product in its entirety.
If you’re curious about what products beauty editors are currently loving enough to finish, check back with us on the last Wednesday every month for our empties roundup. While you’re at it, we’d love to hear what you finished this month, too. Sound off in the comments below.
Here are all of our April 2019 beauty empties.
Necessaire The Body Lotion
“I’m the kind of person who absolutely needs to slather body lotion all over myself before my day can start, but I always have a hard time finding one that I love. This one from Necessaire is new to me, but I finished it in less than a month — which means that I had to have really loved it. It’s hydrating without being greasy or sticky, and it absorbs quickly into my skin for hydration that lasts all day. A++!” — Kristin Corpuz, Editorial Director

Mara Beauty Algae Retinol Face Oil
“This is the most gentle way for me to incorporate retinol into my skincare routine, and it has totally transformed the texture of my skin. I go through a bottle every few months and am always quick to restock. It’s an absolute must-have for my combination, acne-prone complexion, and my skin drinks it up!” — Bella Gerard, Contributing Fashion Editor

Nudestix Tinted Blur Stick in Light 2
“Though this is meant to be an all-over complexion product, I use this lighter, peachier shade as an under eye corrector and concealer. The pink tones in it cancel out the darkness of my very sleep-deprived eye bags without the weight of a concealer. Note that the product goes on pretty sheer, but is still buildable, and it blends out seamlessly whether I have a base complexion product on or not. Perfect for both full glam and no makeup-makeup days alike.” — Kristin Corpuz, Editorial Director
Skinstitut Glycolic Cleanser 12%
“I absolutely swear by this! If I skip it one night, I’ll literally break out the next day. It’s perfect for acne-prone skin types.” — Andreas Abellana, Editor In Chief
Shop Now: Skinstitut Glycolic Cleanser 12%, $35
Glossier Boy Brow
“Boy Brow and I have a very difficult relationship. Every time I finish one, I think I’m going to find a new brow gel that I love just as much — but I never do. So then that money is wasted on a product that I feel obligated to finish. But somehow, the roads of makeup hoarding lead me back to Boy Brow, and I have finished another tube, yet again. It really is the best brow gel I’ve ever used, and I seriously need to stop convincing myself otherwise.” — Kristin Corpuz, Editorial Director
Shop Now: Glossier Boy Brow, $16
Youth To The People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream
“Pentapeptide calms the stress reaction in sensitive and irritated skin. It’s a deeply moisturizing cream that is especially good for dry skin types. It also helps keep oily and acne-prone skin balanced.” — Andreas Abellana, Editor In Chief
Ouai Volumizing Hair Spray
“This hair spray is great for adding texture and hold to the hair without any stiffness. It is perfect for refreshing days-old hair and giving it a little extra oomph in its style. I’m in need of a restock ASAP!” — Andreas Abellana, Editor In Chief
Shop Now: Ouai Volumizing Hair Spray, $26
